DODOMA:  IN a decisive move to harness the nation’s mineral wealth for broad-based development, the Government of Tanzania has convened high-level strategic talks with key mining stakeholders.

The landmark meeting, spearheaded by the Minister of Minerals in Tanzania, Mr. Anthony Mavunde, marks the beginning of a concerted push to radically increase the mining sector’s contribution to the national treasury, from the currently 16 percent to a targeted 50 percent of government revenue.

Held at the Ministry of Minerals headquarters in Tanzania’s capital city of Dodoma, the gathering brought together senior officials, industry leaders, and technical experts to formulate actionable strategies.

The central mission , among others is to further transform the Tanzania’s mining sector into a more powerful engine for economic growth, social progress, and sustainable national development.

Our objective is not merely to extract resources, but to maximize their value for every Tanzanian,” stated Minister Mavunde.

And he added: “We are committed to ensuring that our mineral wealth translates into tangible improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and overall social welfare.”

The discussions were strategically aligned with Tanzania’s long-term development blueprints, notably the “National Development Vision 2050″ and the “Mining Vision 2030”.

These frameworks mandate a comprehensive, detailed survey of the country’s mineral endowments—a critical step toward achieving the ambitious revenue goal.

Furthermore, the meeting integrated the mining-sector pledges of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Election Manifesto for 2025-2030, ensuring political will is directly channeled into sectoral reform.

Key attendees lending their expertise included the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Eng. Yahya Samamba , and the Deputy Permanent Secretary, Mr. Msafiri Mbibo.

Their presence underscored the administrative commitment to turning strategy into reality.

Minister Mavunde outlined the core principles that must guide this new chapter, including transparency, rigorous research, and impeccable resource management.

Mr. Mavunde charged all participants with a duty to ensure that the strategies devised are not only implemented effectively but also yield measurable, positive outcomes for the government, the mining industry, and, most importantly, the citizens of Tanzania.

This collaborative initiative signals a new era of partnership between the state and the mining sector, one focused on mutual benefit and national prosperity.

By aiming to triple its fiscal contribution, Tanzania’s mining industry is poised to move from being a source of raw materials to becoming the cornerstone of the nation’s sustainable economic future.
