
Within the next five years, the government will increase surveyed and designated land for livestock activities by 2.51 million hectares, bringing the total to 6 million hectares
DODOMA: TO boost the Tanzania’s livestock sector, the government of Tanzania is planning to embark on a robust project to expand surveyed and designated land for livestock grazing.
This development will see the country’s livestock grazing areas improved from 3.49 million hectares to 6 million hectares over the next five years.
The crucial strategy targeting to heighten performance of the country’s key economic sector was unveiled on January 28, 2026, by the Deputy Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, Mr Ng’wasi Kamani, while responding to a question from the Member of Parliament for Ngorongoro, Mr. Yannick Ndoinyo.
In his main question, Mt. wanted to know about the efforts by the government to expand grazing areas from 3 million to 6 million hectares, as stipulated in the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Election Manifesto.
In his response, the Deputy Minister said the government is committed to implementing the CCM Manifesto in line with the speech delivered by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, during the official opening of the 13th Parliament on November 14, 2025.

He said that within the next five years, the government will increase surveyed and designated land for livestock activities by 2.51 million hectares, bringing the total to 6 million hectares.
“The ministry I lead, in collaboration with ministries, departments and institutions mandated by law to plan and implement proper land-use planning, has already begun preparing a five-year strategy to set aside 2.51 million hectares for livestock activities,” he said.
He noted that the implementation of the plan aims to improve the livestock sector, reduce land-use conflicts, and enhance productivity among livestock keepers nationwide.
