THE President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has said the government will continue to cooperate with the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) in efforts to strengthen the institution’s performance, particularly in key areas of revenue collection.
President Mwinyi made the statement on December 17, 2025, when he met with the TRA Commissioner General, Mr. Yussuf Juma Mwenda, and some senior officials of the Authority, who visited the State House in Zanzibar to discuss issues related to the efficiency of revenue collection and service delivery.
He said revenue is the main pillar of the government in implementing development projects, and called on TRA to continue to improve service delivery in every area with opportunities to increase revenue collection efficiency.
President Mwinyi added that this step is important due to the rapid growth of port activities in Zanzibar, citing the Fumba Port as one of the ports growing rapidly following an increase in cargo transportation.

He also noted that the government has put in place special strategies for Pemba ports to reduce cargo transportation costs, a move that will benefit traders and citizens in general.
During the talks, President Mwinyi praised TRA’s move to install new scanners at the port, saying the move will increase government revenue and enhance national security.
Regarding TRA’s intention to hold discussions with stakeholders, President Mwinyi said the move is fundamental in finding solutions to challenges arising in the implementation of the Authority’s mandate, particularly in revenue collection.
For his part, TRA Commissioner General, Mr. Yussuf Mwenda, expressed satisfaction with the ongoing cooperation from the Zanzibar Revolutionary Government, which contributes to improving the delivery of the Authority’s services efficiently.
He also informed that TRA is continuing with plans to install scanners at all ports nationwide to enhance performance and control of government revenue.
