DAR ES SALAAM. THE Government has challenged Media Houses and Journalists across the country to work beyond call of their duties and embrace high professionalism during the coming General Election.
Dr Doto Biteko, the Deputy Prime Minister- Cum- Minister of Energy made the call this afternoon, Wednesday July 9, 2025, in his opening remarks at a special forum to deliberate on the contribution of Journalists in General Election period.
He said, during the eagerly – awaited General Election, the scribers in the country must turn more than just ‘Journalists’ and instead, they have to be the guardians of news.
“In the coming Election, it is the Journalists who will decide, either to have Tanzania remain united, or separated,” he observed.
The Minister also spoke over the need to ensure the news channelled through diverse social media platforms are genuine.
“At least 76 percent of population in Tanzania depens on social medias, thus, there’s a need to ensure the viral platforms are providing factual and reliable information to the public,” he noted.
Prof Palamagamba Kabudi
Prof Palamagamba Kabudi, the Minister of Information, Culture and Sports on his side insist over the need for Journalists to well use their pens and positions to provide information more patriotically and vigilantly during the General Election.
Tis, according to him, will help the country to run the key election peaceful.
“We’re working to ensure Journalists are protected in order to stand on a safe side while collecting, processing and disserminating different news during the election.
Mr Grerson Msigwa
Mr Grerson Msigwa, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports and Chief Government Spokesperson, for his part expressed concern over the urgent need for all Journalists in Tanzania to seek for relevant professionalism.
Held at Mlimani City Hall in Dar es Salaam, the timely forum attracts editors and Journalists from different media houses, officers from security organs as well as other Government leaders.
