President Samia To Launch Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050 Next Month

The  Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050 Has Been Development In A Matured Extent To Allow The Private Sector To Play Central Role In Working In Sync With The Government In Propelling The National Economy.

DODOMA. PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan is set  to launch the Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050 in July, 2025.

The Dira 2050 launch is a culmination of a lengthy process which started in 2023 to collect aspirations   from  groups,  institutions and Tanzanian  from all work of life in Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar as to how they want their nation to be by 2050. 

The excercise was being coordinated by the Ministry of Planning and Investment through the National Planning Commission (NPC)

Among others, the draft Vision 2050  outlines a comprehensive plan to transform the nation into a diversified, resilient, and inclusive upper-middle-income economy, prioritizing human development, economic growth, and resilience to climate change.

Speaking at the Parliamentary grounds on the tabling of the Vision 2050 in the Parliament, Prof Kitila Mkumbo Minister for Planning expressed his optimism saying the new visions bring new hope as Tanzania aims to grow her economy to attain a middle income status by 2050.

Dr Fred Msemwa, the Executive Secretary (ES) of the National Planning Commission told ‘Semawebsite’ over the weekend that the launching of Vision 2050  follows a rigorous approval process by a multitude of stakeholders and the government machinery.

“We, at NPC are thankuful to wananchi, all stakeholders and the government  that after this long process the Process, the President of the United Republic of Tanzania will guide the Nation to this historic event to finally launch the ambitious  Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050,” he said.

Dr Msemwa expressed gratitude to the patriotic manner to which wananchi, the private sector, civil societies and government leaders at all levels etc    have seriously supported  the Commission to finalize the national crucial assignment.

He briefed, the  Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050 has been development in a matured extent to allow the private sector to play central role in working in sync with the government in propelling the national economy.

“The Vision focuses on economic transformation, human capital development, and environmental sustainability, whereby key goals include achieving an average annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate exceeding 8 percent increasing GDP per capita to $7,000, and universalizing access to quality education, health, and other essential services,” he said.

Derived from its innovativeness and pragmatic decisions, Dr Msemwa noted that the private sector must stand at the forefront in terms of driving the economy of the country.

The intention, according to him, is ensure the private and public sectors works together to build the much needed trust in driving the national economy.

He insisted, the Tanzanians need better health, better roads, and attentive government, added:”This is coming from the government framework which is part and parcel of the national development vision 2050,” 

He said the national development vision 2050 has been developed with three key pillars, including competitive economy, human capital development and environmental conservation and protection.

“The country have recently witnessed a radical shift in terms of rainfall patterns and natural calamity, being caused by climatic change,” 

” The situation requires the nation  to pay attention and be able to manage the associated climate risks that may crop- up out of climate change,” he added.

Development of the new vision 2050 becomes necessary as we are nearing the end of implementation of the national development vision 2025, which started to be implemented since 2000.

In her remarks to windup the 12th Parliament in Dodoma, President Samia explained the main purpose for the establishment of the National Planning Commission, as well as its importance in the development of the country.

“In strengthening  proper use of the funds we collect and borrow, we re-established   the National Planning Commission to ensure that the sector plans are tied to the national goals and the resources we have,” she expressed.

“The new vision 2050, which will officially be launched  in July this year (2025), will give us a direction that will enable our nation to make further development,” the President added. 

The Planning Commission plays a crucial role in national development by managing the economy, directing the planning process, and supervising the implementation of approved economic and social plans.

 It also assesses national investment resources, analyzes economic trends, and advises the government on resource allocation and policy adjustments.
