Transport Minister Applauds NIT Being At Cornerstone Of Realizing High Quality Research As Graces 1st International Conference on Transport, Logistics and Management

MINISTER
for Transport, Professor Makame Mbarawa has officiated the National Institute
of Transport (NIT)’s 1st International Conference on Transport, Logistics, and
Management while congratulating the Institute for arranging the conference
where the scientific community in the fields of transport and logistics
management will share experience and disseminate their research findings and
breakthroughs.

SALAAM.

 Speaking
while officiating the conference, Prof Mbarawa said that, high quality research
plays a key role towards sustainable development and applauded the NIT being at
the cornerstone of realizing that.

 “We need evidence-based decisions in the
transport sector in order to realize the intended development outcomes. As
participants of this 1st International Conference on Transport, Logistics and
Management, you have a stake. I encourage all of you to be attentive and use
this platform to establish everlasting research collaborations.” 

The
Minister added: “As the Government, we promise to continually provide necessary
support to NIT and other transport stakeholders to ensure that we work and move
together for the betterment of the transport sector.”

He
further promises to take the transport sector to the next level. “I understand
this should be the task of all of us, the Government, the private sector, NGOs,
and development partners. As a Minister, I assure you, I will work tirelessly
and smart to address different challenges in the sector in collaboration with
all stakeholders including those participating in today’s event.”

As the
theme of this year’s Conference is “Reliable Transport and Logistics Management
for a Sustainable Economy”, the Minister said that the theme aligns to the
National Development Vision 2025, CCM election Manifesto 2020 – 2025, Tanzania
Development Vision 2030, Africa’s Agenda 2063, and the Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs),” he said.

He
insisted: “It is indeed pleasing to know that this Conference is a platform for
knowledge sharing and dissemination of research findings to improve the
transport sector.”

The
Transport Minister went on to say that the Government is in full support and
recommending the Conference to be conducted yearly with the expectations that
critical research findings and innovations are discussed, and possible
recommendations are shared to improve the performance of the transport sector.

“I am
glad to say that NIT is growing rapidly, and the Conference theme is directly
linked to the development of the National strategic projects in the transport
sector including Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), Standard Gauge Railways (SGR),
Construction of Tanzanite, Nyerere and Kingongo Busisi Bridges, modernization
of ports for the strengthening of the National Airline Carrier and Procurement
of Modern Cargo Passengers Aircraft,” he said.

He
noted, “Other similar projects include rehabilitation and construction of new
airport and the development of the Blue Economy, Oil Pipeline from Hoima,
Uganda to Chongoleani Tanga, Tanzania, and Julius Nyerere Hydropower Station
Project. I believe that, through this Conference different stakeholder and
development partners will find avenues for collaborations to ensure that,
Conference resolutions, are taken on board for implementation.”

He
tasked the Institute to produce human resources with high quality that can be
support the government major projects in the transport sector.

He also
said that 1st International Conference on Transport, Logistics and Management
marks a major milestone for NIT, the nation, and the region at large.

”It is my
anticipation that researchers, scientists, and participants of this year’s
Conference will have a chance to share their recent breakthroughs and
innovations in transport, logistics and management for the prosperity of the
transport sector for economic development of our countries,”
concluded.  

On his
part, Prof. Zacharia Mganilwa, Rector of the national institute of transport
said: “This year’s Conference is a milestone towards the realization of targets
as outlined in our Five Year Rolling Strategic Plan IV 2021/2022 – 2025/2026.
Our aim is to make it a regional platform for the scientific community in the
fields of transport, logistics and management.”

Prof
Manilwa pointed out that the Conference features a rich program with a number
of Keynote Speeches from renowned and accomplished scholars in the field of
transport from Tanzania and around the world.

We will
also hear a number of technical presentations from selected industry actors
including TRC, TASAC, DART and TCAA. For us as an academic institution through
this Conference, we envision to utilize the synergy obtained from the
tripartite of academia, private sector, and the Government in order to support
on-going transformations in the transport sector,”
he said.

This 1st
International Conference on Transport, Logistics and Management offers a
special opportunity to bring together professors, researchers, and scholars
around the globe, and serves as a platform to deliver innovative research
findings and latest trends and development in the fields of transport,
logistics and management, he observed . 


He went
on to say that all accepted and presented papers in the Conference will have
the opportunities to be published in our scientific peer-reviewed journal
“International Journal of Logistics, Engineering and Management”.

He
concluded: “…Indexed by Sci-Scopus. The Conference has received articles, where
papers have been accepted by the Committees for presentation and to be included
in the proceedings. These papers on various topics are divided into 6 sessions
in the Conference. To all members of the Organizing Committee, the reviewers,
and the collaboration partners, we would like to thank all of you for your
tremendous efforts to organize this Conference successfully.”
