Investors Urge TANAPA To Facelift Road Infrastructures In Mkomazi National Park

 Mkomazi is a very beautiful touristic- endowed area, even more than other famous National Parks like Serengeti, but it is unfortunately that the Park is still underrated

KILIMANJARO. TOURISM stakeholders who have extended investment footholds into Mkomazi National Park have challenged the Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) to improve road infrastructures at the  Northeastern National Park.

Also, they urged the Government to easy paper works for investing into the vital economic sector in order to attract more  investors.

Mr Horst Bachamann, the Managing Director of African View Ltd, the company which has invested six tented camps in Mkomazi National Park told the publication that roads within the park are not friendly, especially during rainy season.

“It would be very helpful if TANAPA will work to maintain the roads across the park in order to assist tour operators to allow the visitors to have best experience of the area,” he urged.

Mr Bachamann, the Germany- based investor who have also invested into  other national parks, including Serengeti, Tarangire and Mikumi spoke over the need for the government to allocate more investments towards the park.

He added, Mkomazi is a very beautiful and touristic- endowed area, even more than other famous National Parks like Serengeti, but it is unfortunately that the Park is still underrated.

“Mkomazi is a wonderful stop over, from Arusha tourism hub to Indian Ocean, but few visitors are traveling to this part of the country,” he said.

Moreover, Mr Bachamann who have been in Tanzania’s tourism corridor for twenty years now observed that most visitors who visiting the park are always overwhelmed with the mesmerizing nature of the area, saying the animals are still little bit shy.

“This is why we have decided to invest here to help efforts by the Government to promote this natural wildlife area, so far, we have managed to attract and visitors from Germany, Australia, Belgium, Scotland and from Scandinavian countries,” he expressed.

He hailed the Government of Tanzania for dedicating at least 20 percent of the land in the country for conservation purpose.

On his part, Mr Kim Axmann, the Director of Mkomazi Wilderness Retreat, insisted over the need for TANAPA to further promoting the park.

He said, the park offers very peculiar eye- catching attraction packages in surpass to the country’s famous parks.

“The specialist of Mkomazi can be calculated in many good factors, this area offers the best wilderness experience which most tourist are searching for ,” he informed.

Expressing the park in further details,  Mr Axmann added: ” This park has no many movements of vehicles, making it the pure wilderness for best views of 5- Big animals, as well as natural landscape,”

With the introduction of black rhinos, he said the park has continued to attract improved number of visitors on daily basis.

“If the Government, through TANAPA will embark on a fresh bid to improve Mkomazi National Park, then this area  will stand tall amid the Tanzania’s best tourism destinations,” he insisted.

According to the Acting Chief Park Warden of Mkomazi, the National Park mapped in the Northeastern Tanzania, on the Kenyan border, in Same District of Kilimanjaro Region and Lushoto District, Dr Emmanuel Macha, the area is currently attracting an average rate of 1000 visitors per month.

 “The National Park recorded about  7,900 tourists in the seven months period between July 2024 and January 2025,” he said.

Home to the special breeding site for Black Rhinos, Mkomazi is also home to an amazing diversity of mammals and birds, several not to be found in other national parks of Tanzania.

The National Park extend into Tsavo National Park and is therefore part of one of the largest protected ecosystems in Africa.

Still relatively undiscovered, Mkomazi National Park feels remote and is the perfect place to get off the beaten tourist track and experience Tanzanian wilderness at it best.
