WB injects Kongwa District With 238m/- To Boost Provision Of Safe Water Services, Improve Environmental Sanitation Initiatives

THE
World Bank (WB), through its flagship initiative, the Program- for Results
Financing ( ‘P4R’) has injected the Kongwa District of Dodoma region with at
least 238m/- for uplifting provision of safe water, and stepping up environmental
conservation drives.
Program-for-Results
(PforR), is the World Bank’s lending instrument, is one of several innovative
approaches to development aid that focus on measurable development outcomes.
Proponents argue that PforR will help strengthen institutions, build capacity,
and enhance partnership.
The
development was unveiled Tuesday the District Commissioner (DC) of Kongwa,
Remidius Mwema during a meeting of the district’s Primary Health Committee
(PHC) which convened to discuss and set key strategies to elevate the
performance of health sector within the fast growing District.
In part,
the meeting also highlighted over the progression and achievement of the
program which is being implemented jointly by World Bank in cooperation with
the government of Tanzania.
Among
others, the robust program targets to heighten provision of sustainable safe
water services and sanitation, as well
as environmental care.
“The
program is running diverse programs to ensure the communities dwelling across
the district are in good and most healthier environment, ” he said.
The DC
informed that, in the district, the program is being implemented in at least
three major dispensaries of Manyata, Hembahemba and Msunjilile.
“In
Tanzania, the P4R program is implemented jointly between the WB and the
government of Tanzania through its Force Account, covering a total of 137
councils within 25 regions,” he informed.
He added
that, as per the program’s second phase under the 2023-2024 fiscal year, six councils in Dodoma region will benefiting
accordingly from helpful initiative.
DC Mwema
challenged the supervisors of the community-based project in the district to
ensure they prepare patriotic budgets and ensure the tax-payers money that
involved in the implementation of the project’ are being utilised properly to meet
the needs results.
On his
part, Kongwa District Health Officer,
Abdulrahman Shehe Othman expressed that the project, P4R, is also
working to sensitize over a need for the construction of improved toilets,
together with educating the public over the need to adopt hands-washing
culture, especially after using toilets.
In
today’s world, development is about results and institutional strengthening.
Everyone—government officials, parliamentarians, civil society, and the private
sector—is demanding programs that help deliver sustainable results and build
institutions.
To
address this growing client demand, the World Bank has developed the
Program-for-Results (PforR) financing instrument. Its unique features include
linking disbursement of funds to the achievement of specific program results
and supporting clients in enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of their
development programs to achieve tangible and sustainable results.
