MINISTER for Minerals Mr. Anthony Mavunde has embarked on an official working tour of Geita Region aiming to inspect key development projects, stimulating economic activities and monitoring the implementation of government directives aimed at improving the livelihoods of wananchi.
Mr Mavunde, who also serves as the government’s patron for development activities in Geita Region, began the tour in Chato District by inspecting a 40bn/- water supply project that is expected to provide clean and safe water to more than 185,000 residents.
The minister said the government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan continues to prioritise strategic investments in water infrastructure as part of wider efforts to improve public health, enhance social welfare and boost productivity.
Speaking after inspecting the project, Mr. Mavunde said that reliable access to clean water is a cornerstone of sustainable socio-economic development and directed contractors to ensure the project is completed on schedule and in accordance with the required quality standards to guarantee value for public money.
As part of efforts to strengthen the mining sector’s contribution to the economy, the minister also visited a youth-led mineral processing plant under construction, where he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for young people to participate in mining and mineral value addition.
He said expanding investment in mineral processing and beneficiation industries would increase the value of Tanzania’s mineral resources, create employment opportunities for young people and enhance the sector’s contribution to national economic growth.
During the first day of his tour, Mr. Mavunde also laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Rwantaba Bridge, a strategic infrastructure project expected to improve transport and logistics, connect production areas with markets, facilitate trade and accelerate economic development across Geita Region.
On his side, Geita Regional Commissioner, Mr. Martin Shigela said the implementation of development projects across the region is providing practical solutions to the needs of residents.
He added that the regional administration is committed to ensuring all ongoing development projects are completed on time so that communities can fully benefit from the government’s investments.
