TARI To Stage Special Marathon Event to Mark 10 Years of Transforming Tanzania’s Agriculture

DODOMA: The Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI) has announced the TARI Marathon 2026, a special race organized to celebrate the institute’s 10th anniversary and a decade of advancing agricultural research, innovation, and food security in Tanzania.

The marathon is scheduled to take place on August 2, 2026, in Dodoma, one day ahead of TARI’s official 10th anniversary celebrations on August 3.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Messenger, TARI’s Director of Technology Transfer and Partnerships (DTTP), Dr Sophia Kashenge, said the celebrations will bring together a wide range of stakeholders, including farmers, development partners, researchers, and TARI employees from across the country.

“We have invited all our stakeholders and partners. There will be exhibition booths where participants will showcase their activities, exchange knowledge, discuss ways of strengthening the institute’s achievements, and develop new strategies for the future,” Dr Kashenge said.

She revealed that Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba is expected to officiate the anniversary celebrations and present awards to outstanding researchers and key stakeholders who have contributed significantly to the institute’s success.

Dr Kashenge said the marathon will start from the main entrance of the Nanenane Agricultural Exhibition Grounds in Dodoma.

She noted that registration for the marathon costs 35,000/-  per participant, with all registered runners receiving official race kits and standing a chance to win attractive prizes.

“We invite everyone to be part of this historic event as we run together to celebrate ten years of TARI’s contribution to transforming Tanzania’s agricultural sector,” she said.

According to Dr Kashenge, the anniversary celebrations will highlight TARI’s decade-long achievements in agricultural research, innovation, and technology development, while also providing a platform to strengthen partnerships that will drive future growth in the sector.

“We are running for agricultural innovation, for food security, for better health, for Tanzania’s farmers, and to support agricultural research,” she emphasized.

TARI has encouraged stakeholders and members of the public to register early and participate in the landmark event.
