Towards 30 Years Beijing: Stakeholders launches Campaign On 16 Days of Activism Against GBV -

The campaign marks the 30th anniversary review of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for action.

The USAID’s Afya Yangu Southern and USAID Kizazi Hodari Southern Zone projects have launched the helpful campaign against Gender Based Violence.

The two USAD- based projects which are being funded by PEPFAR/USAID and implemented by Deloitte Consulting Limited, are bridging efforts with WiLDAF Tanzania to execute the campaign on 6 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

This year’s campaign will be heralded by the theme: ‘Towards 30 Years Beijing, Unite to end Violence against Women and Girls”.

The campaign marks the 30th anniversary review of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for action.

The 16-day celebration of sexual violence in 2024, with this year’s slogan being ‘After 30 years of Beijing, let’s unite to eradicate violence against women and girls.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam during launching of the campaign was launched, representative from the USAID Afya Yangu Southern Zone project, Ms Jackline Uwaya said that the community has a great contribution in the fight to eradicate and end gender violence.

“Together we have the ability to influence the society mindset towards gender violence, as people take time to think deeply about any information about acts of gender-based violence when they occur,” she said.

She expressed that if members of society, government and other stakeholders join forces, GBV will end.

However, she said that currently Tanzania has been able to take major steps in the fight against gender violence compared to previous years, thanks to the cooperation between the government and private institutions.

The event’s chief guest, Ambassador Getrude Mongela, said that if society is properly educated about the effects of gender based violence, it will refrain from such actions.

“These acts of violence against gender occur in the society in which we all live. If we invest a lot on promoting education and we all join together, these actions can end completely,” she said.

According to the gender activist, it is possible to have a zero gender based violence society hence members of community should join forces in GBV fighs.

“Everyone should fulfill their responsibility in ensuring that sexual violence is eradicated,” she insisted.

The 16 Days of Activism is an opportunity to revitalize commitments, call for accountability and action from decision-makers, as the world approaches the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in 2025 – a visionary blueprint for achieving gender equality and women’s and girls’ rights everywhere.
