THE United States and Tanzania are strengthening their partnership to enhance mineral exploration and research in the country.
The collaboration, supported by the US Department of State’s Energy and Mineral Governance Program, aims to improve Tanzania’s capacity in mineral exploration and sector management.
Through this partnership, Tanzanian experts will receive training on modern technologies and equipment for data collection and analysis. The project is expected to lead to the discovery of new mineral deposits, including graphite, in regions like Mtwara and Lindi.

The Minister of Minerals, Mr. Anthony Mavunde, welcomed the collaboration in Dodoma on Wednesday 21st January 2026, saying it’s a testament to the strong partnership between Tanzania and the US.
Speaking at the event, US Acting Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr. Andrew Lentz, praised Tanzania’s efforts in promoting clean energy and sustainable development.
“This partnership is set to boost Tanzania’s mining sector, making it a key player in the global market. With modern technologies and expertise, Tanzania aims to unlock its mineral potential and drive economic growth,” Mr. Lentz expressed.
