GOSPEL singing is a ministry that goes beyond just having a good voice. It’s about communicating spiritual messages that reflect the word of God, as written in the Bible. It’s a calling that requires a clean heart, anointing, and revelation from God himself.
In Tanzania, we’ve been blessed with talented gospel singers who’ve been releasing powerful songs that’ve captured the hearts of many. The establishment of Christian radio stations and the growth of the local film industry have provided platforms for these artists to share their gifts.
However, there’s a concern that the gospel music industry has become more about business and less about spiritual devotion. Many gospel singers now dress, style, and perform like secular artists, making it hard to distinguish between the two. The lyrics of gospel songs have also become more like code-mixing and code-switching between Bible verses and street language.
This shift has led to a loss of identity and purpose among some gospel artists. The focus seems to have shifted from spreading the word of God to seeking fame and fortune. This is not to say that gospel artists shouldn’t be successful or recognized for their talents, but rather that their primary goal should be to serve God and inspire others.
 So, what’s the solution?
It starts with a return to roots. Gospel artists need to recommit to their calling and prioritize their spiritual devotion. They need to remember that their music is a form of ministry, and that they’re accountable to God for how they use their gifts.
Church leaders and mentors also have a role to play in guiding and supporting gospel artists. They can provide spiritual guidance, mentorship, and accountability to help artists stay focused on their calling.

Ultimately, it’s up to the gospel artists themselves to make a change. They need to seek God, pray for guidance, and commit to using their gifts for His glory. Let’s pray for our local gospel vocalists to return to their roots and prioritize their spiritual devotion. Their role in shaping the nation’s spiritual landscape is crucial, and we hope they’ll recommit to using their gifts for God’s glory.
The Impact of Gospel Music
Gospel music has the power to inspire, uplift, and transform lives. It can bring people closer to God and provide a sense of community and belonging. When gospel artists stay true to their calling, their music can have a profound impact on individuals and society as a whole.
The Call to Gospel Artists
To our beloved gospel artists, we urge you to remember your calling. Don’t let the allure of fame and fortune distract you from your primary goal. Seek God, pray for guidance, and commit to using your gifts for His glory. Your music has the power to change lives, so let’s use it to make a difference.
A Message to the Church
To the church, we say: support your gospel artists. Provide them with spiritual guidance, mentorship, and accountability. Help them stay focused on their calling and encourage them to use their gifts for God’s glory.
Let’s work together to revive the gospel music industry in Tanzania. Let’s prioritize spiritual devotion, authenticity, and excellence. Let’s use our gifts to inspire, uplift, and transform lives. Be blessed!
