
President Samia Suluhu Hassan is expected to lead a tree-planting exercise on January 27, 2026, in Bungi Kilimo and Kizimkazi areas of Zanzibar, as part of her birthday celebrations.
MANYARA. THE Tanzania Forest Services (TFS) will plant 1,100 trees in Hanang District, Manyara Region, as part of activities celebrating President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s birthday.
TFS Chief Conservator of Mount Hanang, Mr. Abubakar Mpapa, announced the plan during a tree-planting event at Chief Sarja Secondary School in Hanang District over the weekend, where at least 350 fruit trees were planted.
The initiative aims to strengthen environmental conservation and improve community nutrition in northeastern Tanzania.
“A total of 1,000 tree seedlings will be planted at Endaswold Primary School, while the remaining 100 seedlings of various species will be planted at Hanang’s Mini State House,” Mpapa stated.
He explained that TFS is implementing a nationwide tree-planting campaign aligned with national environmental policies and President Samia’s vision of a green Tanzania, where forest resources are protected and sustainably used for present and future generations.
During the event, Hanang Member of Parliament (MP) Ms. Asia Halamga emphasized the importance of community involvement in combating environmental degradation.

She noted that planting fruit trees serves as a strategy to enhance public health and income while conserving the environment.
She added that the district is conducting an ambitious tree-planting campaign under the theme: “Patriotism is taking care of the environment—take part in planting trees.”

According to recent information, the exercise seeks to advance the national agenda on environmental conservation, which includes tree planting, protecting water sources, restoring natural vegetation, and contributing to climate change mitigation efforts.

The campaign will be carried out under the theme: “Patriotism is protecting the environment—participate in tree planting,” a slogan designed to foster collective responsibility and encourage citizens to engage in environmental protection within their capacities and localities, for the sake of life, development, and national security.
