TFS Tasked MCL’s Board To Commercialise Tanzania’s Forest Sector
The MCL Board has officially launches its activities, tasked to accomplish at least nine best priorities to help commercialise the country’s forest sector value chain
MOROGORO. THE Tanzania Forestry Services (TFS) yesterday inagurated the board of Misitu Company Limited (MCL), tasked it to accomplish at least nine key priorities inline to improve economic performance in the forests sector in Tanzania.
MCL is a subsidiary company of TFS establishes in 2020 for the purpose of commercialization of the forest sector in Tanzania.
Speaking during the inception meeting of the board, TFS Advisory Board Chairman, Major General Dr. Mbaraka Mkeremy, said the Forest Company was established as a TFS’s commercial strategy with the aim of introducing and developing commercial projects that use forest and bee resources.
” You must work hard while embracing the understanding that this company has been established to help increase agency revenue and expand the businesses that depend on forest and bee resources,” he said.
He added that the company would be responsible for developing project proposals, addressing investment plans, and reducing agency dependency on the government.
“So our measure will be the income level that increases in the institution from the company’s work,” Dr Mkeremy insisted.
He unveiled the priorities that the MCL board ought to accomplish as enhancing commercial performance in forests, increasing the value of forest products, increasing revenue, and improving services and products.
Other priorities that the MCL board has been tasked to achieve include to promote innovation and use of technology in the sector, building partnerships with various stakeholders, regulate rules and regulations, develop skills and training for staff, as well as promote professionalism and trust in work performance.
For his part, the Chairman of the Board of Forestry Company, Mr Fortunatus Mhambe, thanked the instructions given by the TFS advisory board, and on behalf of his fellow members he promised to fulfill their duties with patriotism and diligence to achieve the goals set.
Other members of the Misitu Company Limited board are Grace Mbise, Peter Mwakosya, Prof. Yonika Nganga, and Chelestino Balama. The Secretary of the Board is Salome Rwiza .
