DODOMA. TO improve economic gains from the agriculture sector, the Government of United Republic of Tanzania is now focusing to revive and improve production and processing of some key economic cash crops that flourishes well across the country.
The crops in question include sugarcane, sunflower, palm oil, sesame, coffee, tea, cotton and avocado.
The development was revealed by President Samia Suluhu Hassan in November 14, 2025 in her remarks to inaugurate the 13th Parliament in Dodoma Capital City.
Unveiling the priorities in the agriculture sector for the next five years, the Head of State said the focus, among others will major to roll out major investments towards production and processing of the mentioned crops.
These, will include conduction of thorough research for the production of improved seed varieties for the crops, expansion of production by engaging more farmers as well as establishment of the equipped relevant processing factories.
The President observed that production of the crops in the country has been experiencing a low ebb due to several reason, including the challenge in the global market.
“The government will work to capacitate performance of the Tanzania Agriculture Development Bank (TADB), and the Coop Bank Tanzania to ensure enough farmers are accessing Capital loans to venture into production of the strategic crops,” the President noted.
Together with that, the President said the initiative will see the government working to search for expanded markets for the crops to allow farmers to reap from their farming executions while enabling the government to realize reasonable incomes.
