Tanzania Mining Commission Issues Over 50,000 Licences Within Seven Years

“Until October, 2024, the Commission has succeeded in allocating 65 areas for small-scale miners in various regions with mining activities,” said Eng. Aziza.
THE Tanzania Mining Commission (TMC) has successfully managed to issue a total of 54,626 minerals extracting related licenses during a period of the past seven consecutive years.
According to the Acting Director of License and Information and Communications Technology (IT) at the TMC, Eng. Aziza Swedi, the Commission has rolled out the significant number of mining licenses in a period from 2018/2019 to September 30, 2024.
Together with that, she unveiled that in the list of the license issuance during the past seven years, the Commission issued at least 35,536 of primary mining licences (PML), a total of 216 of minerals processing licenses (PCLs), and seven refinery licences (RFLs).
Out of the issued licenses, Eng. Swedi detailed that a total of 1,683 were the processing licences (PLs), 144 were the mining licences (MLs) for the medium scale miners and five licenses were the special mining licences (SMLs) for the larger scale miners.

“During the past seven years, we have also managed to issue a total of six minerals smelting Licenses (SL), whereby a total of 12,273 licenses were issued to the minerals brokers, and at least 4,756 licenses were for the minerals dealers,” the Eng expressed.
The mineral pundit added that the Commission has continued to set aside specific areas for small miners, including creating a friendly environment for them to obtain mining licenses as, well as connecting them with financial institutions so that they can obtain loans for supporting their mining activities.

She informed that the state- owned Commission has continued to work in sync with the Geology Survey of Tanzania (GST) in conducting research in various areas with an eye to enable miners to obtain information on the presence of mineral resources.
And the Engineer expressed further that in order to strengthen the licensing management system, the Mining Commission has installed a new system to improve the processing, management and issuance of mining licenses.
