DAR ES SALAAM: THE government of Tanzania has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering the country’s youth by providing them with the skills and opportunities necessary to drive the nation’s Vision 2050 agenda.
The assurance had been delivered by Dr. Fred Msemwa, Permanent Secretary in the President’s Office (Planning and Investment), during a public lecture titled “Student Investor: A Guide to Smart Investment” at the College of Business Education (CBE) in Dar es Salaam.
The event also marked the launch of the Youth Investment Club (YIC) at CBE, making it the third university to host the initiative, following the University of Dodoma (UDOM) and Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA).
The YIC is a collaborative effort between the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA) and the Save Youth’s Dreams Foundation (SYDF).
Designed to equip students with practical skills beyond traditional classroom learning, the club focuses on fostering financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

Addressing attendees, Dr. Msemwa emphasized that Vision 2050 views young people not as a source of social challenges, but as essential human capital for national development.
“Vision 2050 recognizes youth not merely as potential social concerns, but as vital resources for the nation’s progress. You are an asset, and the government is committed to investing in you to drive Tanzania forward. That is why we continue to invest in educational infrastructure and programs like this—to ensure you are prepared to compete, lead, and tackle the challenges our country faces,” he stated.
Dr. Msemwa highlighted several government initiatives aimed at youth empowerment, including investments in education infrastructure, strategic empowerment programs, partnerships with universities and non-governmental organizations, and the promotion of entrepreneurship and innovation platforms.
He noted that young people have historically propelled Tanzania’s development through their energy, creativity, and resilience, describing them as the country’s greatest strategic advantage.
Dr. Msemwa also commended TISEZA and SYDF for establishing investment clubs that provide students with crucial knowledge in investment, business, entrepreneurship, innovation, science, and technology.
“These skills are essential for seizing opportunities, creating jobs, and generating income for yourselves and others,” he added.
Ms. Grace Lemunge, TISEZA Manager for Monitoring and Evaluation, explained that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to prepare youth for modern economic opportunities.
She described the YIC as a forward-looking platform designed to cultivate innovation, entrepreneurship, and financial discipline among young Tanzanians.
SYDF Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Gloria Mheta, stated that the launch represents a significant milestone in advancing financial literacy and youth empowerment across Tanzania.
She added that the initiative aligns with the foundation’s wider mission to help young people overcome obstacles and realize their full potential.
Professor Edda Lwoga, CBE Rector, encouraged students to take full advantage of academic opportunities, including the YIC.
She emphasized that each semester brings them closer to shaping their future careers and achieving financial independence.
