GEITA: THE Tanzanian of Tanzania has launched a 262bn/- project targeting to advance gender equality, marking a major milestone in efforts to empower women and girls across the country.

The timely initiative, christened “Project for Advancing Gender Equality in Tanzania (PAMOJA) was launched on Sunday 8 March 2026 by the Minister for Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, Dr. Dorothy Gwajima, during cerebration of the International Women’s Day in Geita Region.

The event carried the theme: “Rights and Equality for Women and Girls: Inclusive Foundation Towards Vision 2050.”

Speaking at the launch, the minister said the launched project gears to expand economic opportunities for women, strengthen efforts to eliminate gender-based violence, and improve services for survivors.

She noted that investing in women and girls is a vital strategy to help building an equitable society in line with Vision 2050.

“Women’s empowerment is key to sustainable development. I urge the beneficiaries to embrace this project, cooperate fully, and ensure it delivers lasting benefits to communities,” the minister said.

For his part, the Permanent Secretary (PS) in the parent ministry, Dr. John Jingu, expressed that the project will be implemented in ten regions and 40 councils across Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, targeting broad-based socio-economic empowerment.

The World Bank representative, Aun Ali Rahman, praised Tanzania for taking bold steps to economically empower women and promote gender equality while pledging continued partnership with the government to implement inclusive development projects nationwide.

The PAMOJA project is expected to significantly advance women’s economic participation and strengthen community development, reinforcing Tanzania’s commitment to gender equality.
