Tanzania Heightens Exportation Of Forest Products By 87 Percent Within Three Years
A total Of 1,011,013 Cubic Meters Of Tree Products From Tanzania Was Exported Outside The Country Within A Period Of Three Years
TANZANIA has successfully increased the export rate of forest produce over the past three years, from 227,615 cubic meters during 2020/21 to 426,805 cubic meters in 2022/2023.
The vital success in the country’s forestry sector, which is equivalent to an increase in 87 percent, has surfaced through efforts by the Sixth Phase government to improve forest management and its resources through the Tanzania Forestry Services (TFS).
TFS Conservation Commissioner, Professor Dosantos Silayo said during an interview that over the past three years, a total of 1,011,013 cubic meters of tree products from Tanzania was exported outside the country.
“This is due to a move by many local timber factories to start manufacturing finished- products in the country instead of exporting raw materials ,” he said.
He informed, forestry and bee sectors have continued to make a significant contribution to stimulating industrial growth in the country, thus playing a major role in providing the nation with energy and building materials.

Citing data on exports of engineered wood products (EWP), he said a total of 73,188 cubic meters were exported.
“In the financial year 2022/23 a total of 47,491 cubic meters of wood products were exported,” he added.
He said the amount is equivalent to an increase of 66.6 percent compared to 15,876 cubic meters exported during 2021/22.
“This increase reflects government’s strategy to make the forestry industry in the country produce and export processed goods. These products are exported to various countries,” he explained.
At present, he informed that TFS serves approximately 11,670 stakeholders in small-scale wood industries nationwide, from approximately 4,000 industries, and on the side of the middle and larger largest industry is approximately 4,300.
“Forestry factories include small furniture manufacturing, wood processing, manufacturing of engineered products, charcoal industries, as well as cluster and paper making industries,”
“Stakeholders involved in these industries receive raw materials from private forests, but to large extent from state- owned tree estates and forests,” he said.
