TUKUYU: THE Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) is running a verification exercise in readiness to Compensate the residents whose properties were affected by construction of the 35.3 kilometers long Katumba–Lupaso road, in Tukuyu, Mbeya region.
The Katumba–Lupaso project is the third phase of the larger Katumba–Mbambo–Tukuyu road construction project, which covers a total length of 79 kilometers and is being implemented in Mbeya Region with the aim of improving transport infrastructure and stimulating economic development in the area.
The valuation verification exercise aims to confirm property details of residents included in the compensation program, in order to ensure fairness, transparency, and public participation before the project proceeds.
Speaking during the exercise, TANROADS Senior Valuer, Ms. Anna Urassa said that some sections of the road have encroached on residents’ land, and therefore, the affected property owners are entitled to compensation in accordance with existing laws and procedures.
Meanwhile, Saad Athuman said the exercise is important in ensuring justice between the government and citizens, while also helping to prevent the loss of public funds and reduce complaints that may arise during project implementation.
Similarly, TANROADS Headquarters Senior Community Development Officer, Ms. Herieth Kamara, commended the government for emphasizing valuation verification prior to compensation payments, noting that the move helps reduce disputes and facilitates the efficient and timely implementation of development projects.
