PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan is expecting to grace the official launching of Tanzania’s new Education and Training Policy, slated to take place on the 30th day of January 2025.
The new policy, with an improved curriculum has been hatched by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in response to the directives by President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Addressing the National Assembly in April 2021, soon after ascended to the country’s driver seat, Dr Samia pledged to bring about a positive reshuffle in the country’s education corridor.
She directed the parent ministry to formulate the best policy and improved curriculum, to ensure Tanzania’s education sector produce useful human resources for the betterment of the country’s socioeconomic development.
As part of putting her directives into reality, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology embarked onto a useful move to review and improve the education policy and the country’s training curriculum.
The three consecutive years initiative, saw the parent ministry engaged fruitfully with the professional experts, relevant institutions and key stakeholders to hatch a specific blueprint for the reformation of the education sector.
Education, Science and Technology Minister, Prof Aldolf Mkenda stresses a point when giving a press conference over launching of the country’s new education policy and curriculum.
According to the Minister of Education, Science and Technology in Tanzania, Prof. Adolf Mkenda the launching event will take place at the Dodoma- based Jakaya Kikwete Convention Center on the mentioned date.
The event which will go in sync with special exhibitions from diverse related stakeholders and institutions will attract officials from the Government, Ministries, Embassies, as well as international organizations.
Prof Mkenda expressed that the new curriculum and policy, dubbed ‘Education and Training Policy of 2014, The 2023 Version and Improved Curriculum’ which has partly started to be implemented at low ebb, has been tailored in professional manner to help curtail all shortfalls existing in the sector.
“The improved policy and training curriculum has take into consideration a number of important areas, seeking to improve the country’s performance and quality in education rolling out, from grassroots,” he said.
The areas, according to him, entails science and technology, use of artificial intelligence (AI), Information Technology (IT) as well as engineering, to mention but a few.
“The improved curriculum focuses to enable our education system to mould equipment human resources who will play notable role to fast track socioeconomic development across the country,” Prof Mkenda expressed.
Moreover, the Don informed that the Government, through the parent ministry is working to employ a total of 4000 new teachers, being part to improve it performance.
To ensure the sector is handled as per the new policy and curriculum, Prof Mkenda said the ministry is executing a program for refresher courses towards the teachers, at different training levels, across the country.
“The purpose is to ensure all trainers are familiarizing with the new developed policy and curriculum,” he expressed.
And he added, the new policy which has started to be practiced at low level, will be implemented in different phases until reaching its full scope.
“During the development of the new policy and curriculum, our experts had ample opportunity to visit some countries to borrow a good leaf, we’re remaining optimistic that the improved policy will help to improve our education status into new heights,” he insisted.
