President Samia To Grace 77th Session Of The African Commission On Human And People’s Rights

THE 77th Ordinary Session of the African Commission
on Haman and People’s Rights has been shelved to take shape in Arusha City
from 20 October to 9 November with President Samia Suluhu Hassan expecting
to grace the official opening of the longest and the biggest event.

 

The Minister for Constitutional and Legal Affairs,
Ambassador Dr. Pindi Chana unveiled the vital development yesterday, saying the
envisaged gathering will attract nearly 1000 participants from around the
continent and oversees.

“Already”, she expressed, “The heads of states has
confirmed her participation in the three consecutive week session,”

As per the set protocols, the session will be preceded
by a special forum for the Non –Governmental Organizations (NGOs) which runs in
Arusha from 16 to 18 October 2023.


Some of the key agendas to be addressed during the
forum and sessions include assessing the achievements and hurdles of the Maputo Protocol, inclusion of youths in the implementation of the African Union Agenda
2026 and confronting racism, xenophobia and discrimination of migrants in the
northern Africa.

Other topics will major on things like balancing
progress and privacy: navigating, data protection, and human rights in
African context, analyzing the implications of and impact of
anti-constitutional changes in African Nations as well as exploring the
challenges and responses to shrinking civic space in African societies.

The delegates will also address issues of
accountability for reprisals and judicial killings in Africa’s pursuit of human
rights.


And during the eagerly-awaited sessions, to take
place in the Arusha’s famous International Conference Centre (AICC) there will
be a panel ratification of the protocol to the African Charter on Social
Protection in Africa.

In order of the sessions side events, participants
will address the situation of human rights defenders who are protecting the
environmental in Africa.

This side events will be the opportunity to analyse
the violations faced by the environmental defenders in Africa, especially in
Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Tanzania and analyse the
situation women human rights defenders in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique.


 

It will also allow for discussion on the strategies
for enhancing protection for environmental human rights defenders amongst key
stakeholders.
