Mining Commisions’ Lab Surpasses It’s Set Mineral Samples Testing Target

GEITA .THE Tanzania Mining Commission’s laboratory has surpassed it’s set mineral samples testing target for the financial year ended June 30, 2024/25 by testing at least 7684 samples.

The high record in mineral samples testing is an addition of a total of 884 testing compared to a total of 6,800 samples that the state- owned commission planned to test in the mentioned period.

Unveiled the development yesterday at the ongoing 8th edition of Geita Mining and Technology Exhibition in Geita region, the Chemist from the lab, Mr. David Lyanda said the cloud- connected facility continues to roll out key services to the mining stakeholders across the country.

The crucial technical services, according to him, include mineral examination with an eye to determine quality and quantity of mineral.

“The services offered by the lab also incorporates examination of gold, carbon, gold-rich, clay and rocks, as well as metallic examination such as copper, metal, nickel, manganese, and zinc using modern X-ray fluorescence (XRF) machines,” he detailed.

Together with that, he informed that the well- equipped lab provides more services such as testing of graphite, rocks and land moisture testing, as well as loss in ignition.

Mr. Lyandala expressed further that installation of modern facilities at the lab, including XRF Machine, Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS), CNHS Analyzer and furnaces have played notable role to strengthening the capacity of the laboratory in offering best services.

He appealed to the mining stakeholders in the country to make brave use of the facility, especially to test the minerals before going into the markets.

Speaking for his part, Mr. John Magesa, a small- scale miner from Geita region the services from the national mining commisions’s lab have played a major role to support them modernizing their daily executions.

” Formerly, we were selling minerals without knowing its quality, which made us lose value. But currently we’re running our business more official through support from the lab, the development which enabling us to fetch reasonable profits,” he appreciated.
