THE Chairman of the Media Institute of Southern Africa, Tanzania Chapter (MISA Tan), Mr. Edwin Soko, has emphasized that the primary responsibility of the media is to build and not to destroy.
Speaking at a training session for journalists, Mr. Soko stressed that the media should focus on reporting stories that promote unity and cohesion rather than fueling divisions and hostility in the nation.
Mr. Soko noted that the media plays a crucial role in shaping public opinion and should therefore be responsible and ethical in its reporting.
He also noted that some individuals are quick to criticize the media for not meeting their expectations, forgetting that the media’s role is to build and not destroy.
He emphasized that the media should be given the freedom to perform its duties professionally, without undue influence from individuals with hidden agendas.
The training session, which brought together 100 journalists from across Tanzania, aimed to equip them with skills on reporting peace and promoting peaceful coexistence.
MISA Tanzania is committed to promoting a free and responsible media and encourages journalists to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in their work.
The organization believes that free and responsible media is essential for the development of a democratic and peaceful society.
The training session was part of MISA Tanzania’s ongoing efforts to promote peace journalism and conflict-sensitive reporting in the country.
