Manyara Launches Chemchem Cup 2023 To Scale Up War Against Giraffe Poaching -

The 16th edution of the Chemchem Cup 2023 has been launched, excepting to bring into the pitch a total of 33 teams to compete in various categories of women and men soccer.

The mesmerising championship which is tailored to help curbing a spate of giraffe poaching is a brain child of the Chemchem Association and has been launched in the Burunge Widlife Management Area (WMA).

Speaking during the launch, Babati District Commissioner (DC) Mr. Lazaro Twange expressed that apart from help recruiting young blood talents in the sports facet, the timely sports gala is also for promoting conservation within the fast growing District.

He informed that there are at least 10 villages that makes up Burunge WMA, the useful collaboration wich has been in forefront to scale-up tourism and conservation issues in the potential area together with the Chemchem Association.

“We’re xpecting that you will be the good ambassadors in help strengthening conservation of the Burunge Widlife Management Area through informing cases of illegal poaching,” he challenged the team’s players, and the entire community dwelling in the area.

The Founder Chemchem association, Ms. Fabia Bausch said since its inception, the chemchem Cup has been playing pivotal role of engaging the community to take central part in the preservation matters.

She unveiled that, for the maiden time, this year’s competition will feature 10 young ladies.

“We have dished out a total of 99m/- in order to ensure this year’s competition runs successfully.

Speaking earlier, the chairman of the championship, Elasto Belela said that the preparations for the championship have been completed, and all participating teams have already been provided with the eye- catching sets of jerseys as well as balls ahead of the vital sports event.

He said that the first winner will scoop 2.5m/- whereby the second winner will pocket 1.5m/- and the third will walk home with 1m/- .

Belela added that for the side of female, the best winning squad will be awareded 1.5m/, the second winner 1m/- and third team will grab at least 500,000.

Together with that, he further said that in under 18 category, the overall winner will be given a prize of 1m/-,whereby the second snd third winnner will pocket 600,000 and 400,000 respectively.
