Govt To Continue Supporting Agriculture Growth in Tanzania

THE government has said it will continue to support development of the agriculture as the sector plays key role in the metamorphosis of the national economy.
The vital vision has been unveiled by Dr. Jim Yonazi, the Permenent Secretary (PS) in the Prime Office, who deals with Policy, Parliament and Coordination issues.
He was speaking at the stakeholders meeting tailored to evaluate progression of preparations for the implementation of the second phase of the Agricultural Sector Development Program (ASDP II) which expects to run for the next five years.
The meeting convened today (Tuesday 15th August) in Dar es Salaam City.
In his remarks, Dr. Yonazi expressed that the agriculture sector contributes nearly one-third of the country’s GDP and employs 75 percent of the population.
He added that the sector has the potential to increase national incomes through crop exports, but also, it plays vital role in improving livelihoods.
He also used the opportunity to congratulate various stakeholders who continue to support the government’s efforts in achieving its goals, including the World Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
“Also, I would like to thank the Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) for enabling the Prime Minister’s Office to coordinate this exercise to review the implementation of the Second Phase of the Agricultural Development Program (ASDP II ),” he appreciated.
