Government Expresses High Commitment To Preserve Forests Ahead Of International Day of Forests

AS Tanzania is preparing for the observation of this year’s International Day of Forests, on 21st March, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism has vowed to strengthen measures for effective conservation of forests across the country.

These, will take into account eviction of citizens who have illegally invaded forest reserves, fighting against massive tree cuttings, as well as adopting advanced technology for forest surveillances.

The crucial plan for the metamorphosis of the country’s forest sector has been unveiled by Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Natural Resources and Tourism Ministry, CP Benedict Wakulyamba.

He revealed the vital strategies when visited the Bondo Forest Reserve, located in Handeni district of Tanga region.

Among others, the tour which he held over the weekend, together with other key officers from the Tanzania Forests Service ( FTS) majored for effective analysis and achievements of diverse projects being implemented to preserve and protect the natural forest from poachers and environmental effects.

The Secretary used to visit to inspect Bondo Forest borders, projects for installation of the forest’s billboard, as well as ongoing interventions towards environmental conservation.

The government will not hesitate taking punitive measures against all to be spotted implicating in negative, and unfriendly activities against all forest reserves across the country,” he said.

He added, the parent ministry in cooperation with TFS was in a ‘no- nonsense strategy’ to curtail destructions of forests reserves in Tanzania.

The International Day of Forests is  an annual event established by the United Nations to celebrate and promote the significance of forests and trees.

The day serves as a platform to highlight the numerous benefits that forests provide, including purifying the air, regulating climate, conserving water, and offering resources like timber and medicinal plants. It also underscores the need for sustainable forest management and conservation efforts to preserve these vital ecosystems for future generations.
