FDH Launches Project To Fight Atrocities Towards Physical Challenged Women, Children In Chamwino District

THE Dodoma-based Foundation For Disabilities Hope (FDH) has embarked on special project to fight against a growing spate of atrocities towards women and children with different forms of disabilities.
The atrocities in question include sexism and rape, as well as early marriages.
Launched Monday in Chamwino District of Dodoma region, the Six –Month humanitarian initiative also focuses to disseminate useful knowledge and awareness to the public in the fast-growing District over the negative impact of the social malpractices.
Speaking during launching of the initiative, the Project’s Coordinator, Ms Glory Mbowe in the implementation of the project, the Foundation will work in sync with the Police Force, and the local government leaders.
“Apart from stepping up efforts to fight against the negative tendencies, the project will assist the intended women and children to understand their statutory and human rights, as well as imparting them with the needed capacity and courage to report the relevant cases to the police force,” Mbowe said.
She added, the project will be implemented in the two wards of Chamwino and Buigiri.
On his side, the Project’s Facilitator, Mr Malale Michael, who comes from the gender desk at Chamwino District Police Station said the initiative will dedicate more focus to educate the beneficiaries over the meaning and type of atrocities.
“Among others, we’re training them how to report to police stations, and other relevant authorities when experiencing different forms of gender-based violence (GBV), and other forms of atrocities,” Mr Malale expressed.
“Incidents of atrocities in this district continues despite several initiatives so far accomplished by various stakeholders, as well as the government. The police force here has prepared to use this project as another important podium to speed-up the pace of war against the malpractices,” he said.
