CRJE: Construction Work for new 33bn/-’s National Sports Centre of Excellence in Malya Now Reaches 12 percent

The project entails installation of three football pitches, running tracks, two basketball courts, two volleyball courts and two tennis courts

THE CRJE (East Africa) Limited has said that construction work for the new 33bn/- worth National Sports Centre of Excellence that is currently in construction at Malya, Kwimba Distrct, Mwanza Region is now at 13 percent.

Briefing reporters about the status of the project, CRJE (East Africa) Limited’s Site Agent Eng. Peter Kulwa said that the project is scheduled to be implemented in two phases (lots) whereby in lot1 is to build new students hostel, cafeteria, classrooms, indoor sports buildings and outdoor works totalling about6434 square metres.

In lot 1, we also planning to build three football pitches and running tracks, two basketball courts, two volleyball courts and two tennis courts,” he said

He added: “In lot 2, we will build team changing rooms block, toilet block and swimming changing rooms totalling about 3483 square metres as well as supporting Olympic swimming pool construction and outdoor works.”

He said that the project is implemented by their company after being employed by the ministry of sports culture and sports in December 2023 whereby the ARU Built Environment Consulting Company Ltd is a consulting firm of the project.

Eng. Kulwa insisted: “The scope of work for lot 1 was supposed to be complete in this December but we failed due to the challenges of on time payments from the government, after received the funds we have rescheduled again the lot one to September next year. We are calling the Government to support us with timely payments so as to finish the project on time without delaying.”

Mr. John Joseph, Mwanza- based sports fan applauded the Government decision to build national sports of excellence centre, saying will be a stage to athletes where they could be imparted with skills and techniques at the state of art infrastructures and playing facilities.

“We wish to see more talents coming at the national sports centre because the country will start producing sports professionals from the best coaches, qualified support staff and high performance directors.

On her part, Ms.Anna Michael from Usagara in Mwanza Region said: “We thank the Government for this important Centre due to the fact that the centre will operate as a regular coaching base for the best available talents in all over the country and across the borders by providing a wider choice of talent and continuity for selection to national teams and provide alternative second and third options too. We will be happy to see the Centre be capable of accommodating elite to development athletes.”
