President Samia noted that, because the civil servants have worked hard to help elevating the national economy by 5 percent this year, they deserved an increase in their wages.

PUBLIC servants in Tanzania must have all reasons to smile following President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s announcement of at least 35.1 percent increase in the minimum wage for public servants this year.

As per the increase announced today, May 1, 2025, during the International Workers’ Day celebrations in Singida region, the minimum salary for civil servants in Tanzania will now stand at 500,000/-, and no longer  370,000/-.

The Head of State expressed that, during the last year’s Workers’ Day, the government had emphasized the economic difficulties at that time and advised against increasing salaries to avoid adding costs.

“Instead, the focus had been on advancing employees’ ranks and providing other benefits,” she said.

President Dr Samia noted that, because the civil servants have worked hard, and standing at fore front to help boosting the national economy by 5 percent this year, they deserved an increase in their wages.

” I’m happy to announce that the government will increase the minimum salary for public servants by 35.1 percent,” she said.

She added: “This increase, which will take effect in July this year, will raise the minimum salary from 370,000/- to 500,000/-. Other salary grades will also see an increase according to the available budget, but I want to assure you that the increase is coming.”
