Chief Justice Urges IJA To Scrip More Historical Books On Past Leaders

CHIEF
Justice of Tanzania Prof. Ibrahim Hamis Juma has asked the Lushoto- based
Institute of Judicial Administration (IJA) to continue the tradition of writing histories of
past leaders that will help to preserve and show their contributions in serving
the Judicial Axis.
The
Chief Justice made this statement on November 24, 2023 in his speech when he officiated at IJA’s 23rd Graduation where a total of 851 graduates have
graduated from the Law Course at various levels.
He said
the Institute has increased its responsibilities and distinguished itself in
the area of ​​publishing books, including the one that describes the Life and
Dream of the late Judge of the Court of Appeal Robert Habesh Kisanga called A
Dream Coming to Fruition: A Biography of Justice Robert Habesh Kisanga.
He said
that the exercise they completed in writing a Book describing the history of
Judge Kisanga is a good work that should be continued to be written in the
Histories of other Tanzanian Court Leaders including Judges and Magistrates who
have done great things in the implementation of their duties they should always
be remembered.
Prof Juma
said other publications that should be worked on are Exploring Judicial Culture
in Tanzania and a collection of cases of sexual abuse of children in Tanzania
and Ireland (A Compendium of Child Sexual Abuse Cases of Tanzania and Ireland).
At the
same time, the Chief Justice has asked the graduates of the College to abandon
the thoughts of waiting for employment in the public and private sectors,
instead, they should think of employing themselves in other sectors that
probably will not be related to the Law course that they have studied.
He said
that this action will help them in dealing with unemployment and thus earn
income for their development and the Nation as a whole while emphasizing that
legal education does not prevent a person from doing other types of work.
“A
law degree does not prevent a person from doing other jobs, let’s start
preparing ourselves psychologically to do other jobs, the jobs we are used to
don’t exist anymore” Said the Chief Justice while imploring the Graduates
to strive to be in a world that is compatible with technology.
The
Chief Justice asked all Lecturers, Students and staff at the Lushoto Court
Leadership Academy to strive through special training programs to acquire
skills and competences to provide services in a digital environment.
He said
the Judicial Task Force managed by the Academy completed the Draft Curriculum
for continuous training for all Court employees (BASIC DIGITAL SKILLS CURRICULUM
FOR JUDICIARY STAFF).
Prof.
Juma said that in order for the training of the Curriculum to be successful for
all Court employees, the Lushoto Court Leadership College should be able to
provide the training that will be provided by the relevant College in a digital
way.
Likewise,
the Chief Justice of Tanzania has thanked the leadership of the District and
Lushoto Citizens for providing an area of ​​8,000 square meters for the
construction of the District’s Modern Court.
He said
the leadership of the Tanzanian Court will work in the area so that the
building to be built will be the District Court and will be used for practical
training for the students of the Lushoto Court Leadership College.
The
Principal of the Lushoto Court Leadership College and the Judge of the Court of
Appeal of Tanzania Dr Paul Kihwelo said they have completed the preparation and
publication of a book describing the life of Court of Appeal Judge Robert
Habesh Kisanga called A Dream Coming to Fruition: A Biography of Justice Robert
Habesh Kisanga which will be launched soon.
The
Principal of the College said that in order to improve teaching for the
students, they have prepared an Electronic Teaching Carousel which is now in
the final stages and now the procedures are continuing to build the capacity of
the Experts on how to teach and prepare publications through the Internet.
While
welcoming the Official Guest, the Chairman of the Governing Council of the
College and the Judge of the Court of Appeal in Tanzania, Dr. Gerald Ndika said
that the College has achieved great success in the awarding of Diplomas,
Diplomas in Law, the preparation of publications and the running of workshops.
He
concluded that the College is focused on research that has helped meet the
needs of the people while it is focused on providing education that is in line
with the changing times and thus able to cope with the competitive environment.
