APRM, IRDP Signs MoU To Accelerate Research And Evaluation On Good Governance

THE Institute of Rural Development Planning (IRDP) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)Â with the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM)- Tanzania to help accelerate vital research and evaluation on good governance in Tanzania.
The sealed contract, among others will see the researchers at the Dodoma – based Institute partnering with the specialized agency of the African Union, APRM Tanzania, to conduct deep research to promote good governance across the country.
Speaking during a brief signing ceremony held in Dodoma Capital City, the executive secretary of APRM- Tanzania, Mr Lamau Mpolo said the development will entail an array of research programmes.
“The major role of APRM Tanzania, include research and evaluation on politics and democracy, supervising socioeconomic projects, rolling out of social services, good governance in the public sector as well as the country’s preparedness towards natural hazards,” he mentioned.
He detailed, under the signed MoU, the focus will major on evaluation over the extent to which the government has so far worked to spur socioeconomic services across the country.
“With sync with reputable researchers from IRDP, we’re going to develop different publications pertaining to the areas in focus, together with highlighting the existing gaps to be detected,” Mpolo said.
He emphasized that the envisaged programme will involve staging of positive sensitization campaign with an eye to promoting good governance in key areas.
“We have opted to cooperate with the IRDP because the nature of its education rolling out bases on community development, especially the rural communities as well as shaping the country’s labour force, which aligns with our vision and mission,” he explained.
He noted, the coming initiative will give the youth communities special priority in order to create a good future for good governance in the country.
For his side, the IRDP’s Rector, Professor Hozen Mayaya said the development will play a meaningful role to help promote the varsity’s academic and research status.

The Don hailed APRM Tanzania for considering the Institute to undertake the programmes, saying it will assist to counter a number of problems facing the local communities.
“Through implementing this MoU, the researchers at my college will be exposed to key opportunities to engage directly with local communities for gathering key information on good governance, and later on, dispatching back outcomes to the relevant authorities, ” he explained.
He added: “This will help them (researchers) to expand their research capability, but also give them a crucial platform to play a role of thinking tanks to their nation,”Â
